MEET RACHEL

Chartered Accountant  |  Spreadsheet enthusiast (yes, really)  |  Bulldog lover

Hi, I’m Rachel, founder and lead accountant behind Bulldog Accounting. I couldn’t do what I do without a team of supportive faces around me – but more about them later!

I love numbers.

I like to make things neat and tidy and I’m rarely happier than when I have a spreadsheet to play with, but my love for numbers is more than that.

I’m fascinated to see what story the numbers are telling me. They’re a really powerful way to understand your business, so you can work out how to develop it and grow. For me, there’s a real joy in helping you to understand your numbers, improve your processes and learn more about finance!

I'm good at what I do.

It’s OK to be confident, right? I qualified as a chartered accountant back in 2010 while I was working at the National Audit Office. I went on to work for the Ministry of Justice and later the non-profit sector, as Head of Financial Accounts for the Royal British Legion and then Head of Finance and HR for Hertfordshire Independent Living Service.

I set up Bulldog Accounting in 2017 when I realised that what I really love is helping small and medium businesses and charities thrive. I’m a member of ICAEW and have spoken about small business accounting at several of their conferences. I’m also a member of the Chartered Accountants’ Livery Company.

As well as all that, I also keep up my commitment to the non-profit sector by sitting on the Board of Trustees at The MS Trust, and by fundraising for Cancer Research and Arthritis Research UK.

“I find Rachel very knowledgeable, friendly and professional... It has all been a seamless process.”

Bulldogs, baking and more.

Aside from loving spreadsheets, I'm a keen amateur cook and baker, and I try to get out for a run every now and then... I live in Kent with my bulldog, Esme.

Esme is well-known to my clients but she focuses mainly on customer engagement as her financial expertise is limited. This picture shows the first time we met – naming my business after her was a natural choice!

You can't run a small business alone.

I may be the founder of Bulldog Accounting but I couldn’t do what I do without the support of a whole range of like-minded businesses and freelance professionals who I call on just about every day!

From expertise in financial matters like insurance, insolvency, HR and payroll (it’s good to know your own limits!) to wider business services like marketing, copywriting and design, if you need specialist support, I’ll usually know who to call!
