We have recently been getting to grips with Xero, the cloud based accounting system that aims to make book-keeping beautiful. Partial to a tidy set of books, we were intrigued by this idea and have been having a good old nosy. So far so good, the interface is intuitive, it was really simple to hook up to our bank accounts and it definitely looks less scary and alien then the more traditional systems we've encountered in the past (Oracle & SUN we're looking at you).
Along with other cloud based offerings such as quick books and Sage 50c, it would appear that small business accounting is becoming more accessible. This is excellent news, giving back control to business owners and demystifying some of the jiggery pokery smoke and mirrors that a lot of accountancy firms want you to pay through the nose for. It also means that us accountants need to switch up our game and add value in different ways.
As a new practice we're still learning what our customers want from us. We know we can get your business working better but we don't want you to have to take our word for it. Get in touch if you have any questions about your accounting system, finance processes or even what the hell it is us bean counters do all day! We love a chinwag and would be grateful for a follow.
